To the Manager of Jamba Juice at Union Station
As the manager, you should understand that disciplining a member of your staff in front of customers is inappropriate. You should also understand that we as customers of a location IN A TRAIN STATION, are using the precious extra minutes we have to stop for a beverage before our long train ride home. To have to spend those minutes watching the manager discipline a staff member instead of serving us our drinks and taking our orders is infuriating.
As a manager you should know that any discipline should not take place at the front of the house, nor should it take place during rush hour. Not only is it humiliating for the one being disciplined, but it is embarrassing for the half dozen customers waiting for service. You should have waited until the end of the shift and then brought that staff member to the back of the store in a private area to have that discussion. That staff member is an adult, it’s not like she’s a child or a dog who needs to be punished at the exact moment the infraction takes place. She’ll know what you are talking about when you bring it up. Never, in any situation, should a manager discipline a staff member in front of other people, especially clients and customers.
I seriously hope your general manager hears about this. It was completely inappropirate for you to stand there fighting with your staff while so many people were waiting and watching.
UPDATE
So I wrote in to the Jamba Juice website. I couldn’t just stand by and let this manager continue this behavior… I got a reply:
