Relay for Life
The relay last weekend went well. I was hoping to have some photos to post but the boy hasn’t managed to pull them off the camera yet and I don’t have the proper software installed on my computer to do it myself.
Our team won “Best On Site Activity” thanks to the boy. Last year he had the idea to bring a mess of comptuers, a generator and stuff and network them together for LAN gaming. It went over big last year and this year was even better. Apparently all the kids did extra chores for the past several months to save the money so they could play. We charged $1 per 15 minutes. Some people felt this was kind of high, but really if you were at the arcade it’d be no different, it’d all depend on how good you were at the game and how many quarters the game cost. Frankly $4 for an hour of babysitting (which is really what this turned into) is not a bad price. We weren’t strict with the 15 minute rule either and we managed to raise about $150. That is a damned good activity…very successful! I think that just about covered the cost of renting the generator….
Yeah it was a monetary loss on our part but it was all for charity and it helped entertain the kids at the event which isn’t an easy task to begin with. Prepubescent boys are not at all easy to entertian, and some of them can be rather mouthy too… it’s like, “look kid…don’t beat on my keyboard or I’ll hunt down your parents and tell them how much the thing costs and then YOU can come to MY house and work it off… I got dishes to clean, toilets to wash, dogs that need bathing….and yes…a giant back yard that needs mowing and weeding.” But it didn’t come down to that (darn, I’d like a bit of slave labor) so everything is well.
You’d think though that when I got home I’d be able to look at the keyboards and just know which one was mine…nope, I think I hooked up the wrong one, the backspace key is much too small. And it’s too clicky too. I’m gunna have to figure out which one is really mine now. Maybe I should just go get a new one, I bet no amount of Lysol will remove those prepubescent boy germs.
Hopefully next year they’ll have the donation website up and running for us so that I can hit all of you, my faithful readers, up for donations…heh heh heh
