Alas poor Yorick

So sad, Geocities will be gone beginning Monday, October 26, 2009. It is where I was inspired to learn HTML. It’s what helped me make a pile of friends across the country. I spent hours and hours going over code trying to create tables and forms and figure out why the picture wasn’t loading properly on my WebTV unit with a dial up connection. I’d be up into the wee hours not caring I had to get up to get to work the next day. The above GIF (that isn’t animating properly) is something I had created for me by a person with a computer who went by the name RC. His site is gone, I’m sure he’s got a job in graphic design and has moved on to bigger and better things. Actually a good chunk of the links from my Geocites site to sites elsewhere on the web don’t work. However, Draac, the great guy who posted JPG and GIF files for WebTV users to link to (since we couldn’t download or upload graphics with our boxes) has created a website of lessons, tools etc for the novice website builder. He is now at Draac.com. The pages at Case Western Reserve University where I learned HTML are still there.

It’ll be sad to know that whole area created back in 1997 wont be there anymore. If you want one last look at my original website, check it out Geocities when I was Astrid
