Review of the rules
OK there are many unwritten rules for riding public transportation as well as written ones. But I feel a need to point out the one unwritten rule I find VERY important.
Persons of size (and I feel that me being a woman of size can say this without offending others) are not to sit next to OTHER persons of size. The seats on trains and busses just aren’t big enough for two of us to sit side by side comfortably. Large people should only sit next to smaller folk. I admit that I am indeed a fat woman, and I always avoid sitting next to other fat people because there just isn’t enough space on the seat for the both of us and inevitably either half of my ass ends up hanging off the seat or the ampleness of my breasts and the upper body of the person next to me makes arm movement and placement a tricky thing.
So WHY IS IT that the woman this morning had to pick ME to sit next to on the train? And it’s not the first time this week she’s sat next to me either!!
HEY LADY! IT’LL BE MORE COMFORTABLE FOR YOU IF YOU GO SIT NEXT TO THE SKINNY GIRL 2 SEATS BEHIND ME!! YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS BY NOW!!
So yes, when she sat down, I made no effort at all to adjust myself to accommodate her or allow her to be more comfortable. It did intrude upon my sense of personal space (which is much larger than most Americans…I need at least 3 feet of emptiness around me at all times when it comes to strangers)and her leg touching my leg did in fact upset me and anger me, but I wasn’t about to move….she KNOWS the unwritten rule here, she could have picked any number of others to sit near, she didn’t have to pick my seat.
Fortunately next week the boy returns from California and I wont have to share my seat anymore with that woman.
